I have been married to Kaye since 1977. We have three children and seven grandchildren: three in Dubai and four in Cape Town.
After school, I joined a reinsurance company (it was either them or a bank to make sure you received a salary while doing military service). I was in the Navy for a year and the plan was to spend a year with this company so that salary received did not need to be paid back. Stayed in the reinsurance industry until I retired at age 54 twelve years ago.
I worked in Cape Town, Johannesburg and the UK. Since then, I have had the best job I have ever had i.e. retiree (recommend to all class of ’68 still working).
In my day played first league cricket and squash in Cape Town. Packed up squash in my early 60s after over 40 years of playing. After retirement, took up golf, but got so frustrated that I also gave that up a few years ago. I now do walks without a golf club or little white ball and it is far more enjoyable!
Enjoy travelling: have had a few lengthy spells in Ireland in last few years. Also enjoy the bush. We have a spot, Mjejane on the Crocodile River alongside Kruger, which we get to once a year.
