I spent eight years at Grey. While I played tennis and soccer, I was not too involved in sport at school as I spent most of my weekends sailing at Rustfontein dam.
I was accepted to the SA Navy for my national service (with Johan Kruger amongst others), doing basics at Simon’s Town, a radar course in Durban and the balance of my time at Maritime Headquarters.
This followed several years at Natal University in Durban, where I eventually graduated with a B.Com degree. It was there that I met my wife.
I joined Lever Brothers, which was the start of a 29-year career in Supply Chain with Unilever, the last 10 years of which were in the UK where I had a senior European and Global Procurement role. As a result, my children got a UK education and two of the three are still working there. Following a restructure of the European operation, I returned to South Africa where I spent 10 years working for Nestle, also in Senior Supply Chain roles.
I retired in September 2016 and live in the greater Salt Rock area on the KZN North Coast, now called Kwa Dukuza, where I regularly cycle with my good friend Blake Phillips. My wife and I have a very active life: golf, off-road cycling and travel, especially camping.
Cedric sadly passed away from prostate cancer on 19 November 2023. He will be remembered as a true gentleman and an inspiration to his friends and family. — Tom Ferreira
