I joined Standard Bank in Bloemfontein in 1969, where I worked for five years before working for Allen Stern at Stern’s Furnishers for three years. The soccer players will remember Allen, who played for CBC.
In 1976 I moved to Kempton Park, where I worked for Ellerine Furnishers (one year) and Triangle Furnishers (eleven years), where I started as credit manager and worked my way up to group credit manager and finally regional manager.
In 1989, I joined Lonmin Platinum mine in Rustenburg as a financial manager. I was retrenched in 2009 due the slump in the platinum price.
Since moving to Rustenburg, I have been living on a small holding (plot) at Kroondal just outside the town. I have been alone since 2004 after a sad divorce. My ex-wife and youngest daughter, Brenda, now live in Mauritius where my wife was born. My eldest daughter, Robyn, is a teacher in Melbourne, Australia.
I played rugby for Rustenburg and also played badminton for many years, representing North-West in the SA Championships. I am also a keen golfer and stamp collector and am a member of the Baptist church where I served as treasurer for 21 years.
