From 1969-1974 I studied medicine and got a wife. She, Marita, got me and a nursing degree. We moved to Pretoria for me to go do “army” at Oshakati … and more. Marita got a degree in Clinical Psychology, while I obtained a degree in Family Medicine in Bloemfontein (1981).
Marita had our first son and we moved to Knysna, joined a practice and had fun in the sun (doing very first Knysna marathon in 1983). I learned to wind surf and scuba dive and Marita had our second son, Jaco.
Ná drie jaar semi-afgetree, is ons terug Bloemfontein toe. Ná sewe jaar kry ek weer die “itch” en gaan vir drie jaar Kanada toe met vier seuns en my baie dapper vrou.
In Canada I explored some new possibilities in patient care. Eventually I was convinced that I wanted to pursue health promotion rather than sickness management. Back in SA (1995), we explored the possibility of a healing centre in the Grahamstown district.
I soon realised that the time was not right, and returned to Cape Town where Marita and I had our own Integrative medical practice for many years. The original plan came to reality when we were invited to join The Hummingbird Healing Centre in Century City.
We also run an internet-based business that will look after us in our retirement.
